Cry ‘Plover’ in seeking one’s kinfolk

IMAGERY

Kolea is moving on, doing his thing, pacing carefully away from the kingdom of angels, ready to manifest in the world. The bundle of the gods is waiting to be unhooked by his consciousness. His soulmate is in the swirls of light, the colour of old gold, waiting to penetrate his reality.

INTERPRETATION

Upright In Hawaii there is a sense that Kolea looks after himself better than others – could that refer to you? For Kolea, Golden plover, is a migratory bird that comes to Hawaii at the end of August and leaves early in May for Siberia and Alaska. Even at his best, Plover tends to feed on other people’s emotions, rather than feeling his own, for he is a bird of high tides - and high emotions. Try to avoid the drama of other birds, and find your true kin, the few bright birds who share your soul of old gold. Reunited with your soul family you’ll be glowingly happy.

Reversed Kolea reversed is tremendously selfish. Plover stays in Hawaii only as long as it suits him. A Hawaiian proverb goes: ai no ke kolea a momona ho’i i Kahiki. ‘The plover eats until fat, then returns to the land from which it came’. Your ego may be out of control. You need to quell it, then learn to build your own Kahiki in Hawai‘i. In other words you need to be happy wherever you are, whatever your circumstances. That’s the way to climb your soul’s golden ladder to the promised land of the sun.

MYTHOLOGY

Our soulmates are always in ‘the kingdom of angels’. They lie towards the tranquil realm of the rising sun. These kingdoms were often referred to as Papa Torea - the stratum of the Torea [Kolea] birds. Torea birds were thought of by the unenlightened as plovers. Plover can only stay within the bright lands by letting go of his selfishness. The attractive, shiny-bodied plover can be very egotistical:

Kolea no ke kolea i kona inoa iho
The plover can only cry its own name

Yet Kolea does have his good points. He certainly knows how to enjoy sex, and brings pleasure to himself and others. Ko means ‘to drag’ and lea ‘orgasm’. But alas, he is unable to stay with his soulmate, for if his head and the heart are not linked, then her pleasure cannot last.

Plover needs to travel between his head and his heart. He needs to learn to cry other people's names rather than his own, and to seek his true kin, his soulmate. The only way to do this is to heal. Knowledge of healing was brought to earth by Kolea. Kumukahi, the god of plovers, was taught the healing arts by Lono. He settled on the island of Hawai‘i, at the most eastern point of the most eastern island, in a place that is now called Kumukahi. Today, a red stone can be seen at the far end of that point, and this is said to be his stone-body. Two of Kumukahi’s wives manipulate the seasons by pushing the sun back and forth between their own stone bodies that are situated nearby, one representing each solstice. Here, in the place where the sun rises out of the sea at the Ladder of the Sun, is where sun worshippers bring their sick to be healed.

ILLUMINATION

Kumukahi is the bird-god of the east, the direction of sunrise. Indeed, he travelled to Hawai‘i from Kahiki with his brother Moa [Chicken] and his tender sister, Sunrise. The place name Kumukahi means ‘first beginning’. Kumukahi made a new start in the direction of the dawn through healing himself and others – how about you? Indeed, Kolea moku, the sacred temple of the Plovers, was built in Kumukahi after many healings occurred there. For Kolea is the bird of Lono, and Lono knows how to help you heal through extending your consciousness.

The rewards of giving up your selfishness are immense. You are not just another attractive golden birdie, but are free to move in a new direction. The rising sun represents the dawning light of human consciousness. The Ladder of the Sun represents the making of the land of Kahiki on earth. With the help of your ‘aumakua, you can grow your soul, leaning into it like a ladder against your desired domain; to ascend into your Higher Self. You will never be alone again. You are a golden plover magnetizing your kin of true gold – the sharers of the very pieces of your soul - to share your journey into the brightness. You are flying blessed into the red-gold realms of soulmate reunion, skybound together into the angelic lands of the best, the upper lands of the west.
